BOOKBINDING & CONSERVATION LLC

A protective enclosure to contain three items: a book, a letter, and a note on a small card.

The book is A Short Narrative of the Horrid Massacre in Boston, published in Boston in 1770. Bound in decorated paper, it is the first published volume on the massacre of civilians by British soldiers. The letter describes the massacre and was sent to the Speaker of the House of Commons requesting that the King remove the soldiers from the province. The card has provenance notations.

The full leather clamshell box has recesses to hold a paperbound book and the small note. The letter is displayed in a mat that opens to allow the letter to be removed and examined. A magnetic closure keeps the mat closed when opening the box.
