The panels were covered with purple kyosei-shi paper and decorated with gilt lines and insets of abalone shell.
The boards were covered with black calfskin decorated with white gold overall, with needle scratching at the center of each board.
The book is housed in a two-piece box covered in purple kyosei-shi with a single line of gold stamped on the upper cover.
